Welcome to Tarasios Lit FAQs

Q: What is writing coaching?

A: Writing coaching gives you a chance to bring to me a piece that you are working on its embryonic stage and get feedback from me as to how you are successful in conveying your ideas, your use of language, etc. I will give you thoughts as to how to bring a deeper, more articulate expression to your writing. If you need, I will provide writing prompts. I will also provide a reading list for your to follow through on if you desire, as the craft of writing is a lifelong learning process.

Q: What does project brainstorming entail?

A: Let's say you have a basic concept, a theme, a character that attracts your attention, or even just a 'taste' in your mouth that won't let you rest until you write about it. Together we will explore those kernels of material and brainstorm ideas as to how to turn them into a cohesive story idea.

Q: What are the three levels of editing, and what do you do in each one?

A: Developmental editing is the stage in which you bring to me your first draft. I will read it and garner ideas as to how you can develop the characters more, solidify a sense of place and time, and where you need to pay more attention to story structure and pacing.

Line editing entails me checking the syntax of your sentences and giving you feedback as to how to revise them to make them stronger and thus your manuscript more compelling.

Copy editing is the stage in which I check for grammar and spelling mistakes. After the corrections are made, I strongly advise you to obtain a proofreader, as there are always mistakes that the eye does not catch on the first go around. Unfortunately, I do not provide proofing services, because at the proofing stage, the more eyes the better.

Please note: Most writers who desire to self-publish skip the developmental editing process and publish work that is far below its potential. Even if you do not take advantage of developmental editing through Tarasios Lit, I strongly advise that you obtain developmental editing by any means possible--or at least some feedback from several beta readers. It is also important to note that many self-published books don't sell well because of numerous spelling and grammatical mistakes which make them look unprofessional. So, at the very least, I advise that you obtain the services of copyediting and proofreading at the very least.

Q: Do you help me publish my own manuscripts?

A: No, unfortunately, I am not a publishing service. However, if you follow my editing leads, your manuscript will be ready for submission to an agent or for independent publishing if that is the route you want to go. If you want to independently publish, I strongly suggest you learn to upload your material onto any of the self-publishing platforms--easily learned through You Tube tutorials, Google, and on the platforms themselves--instead of paying thousands of dollars for a 'vanity press' to publish your material through their companies, most often at an exorbitant cost and misleading claims that they will 'edit' your book when all they do is proofread it.
